I took my mother for her enjoyment. As someone who has never seen the show, it was quite ok. Solid performances, good characterization, nice sets and clothes, and compelling twists and turns in the lives of these aristocrats. It's a well made British period drama.. 1 year 11 months ago

Having fallen madly for DA (the series) and having been so non-plussed by DA (the movie), I had quite low expectations for this one but certainly feel more positive than the prior movie. Okay parts of the ending really annoyed me but overall it was an enjoyable two hours for a hardened fan of the show. Always beautiful to look at and Maggie Smith steals the show but has plenty of competition.

But probably the most fun was the film within -- seeing it being made on set and some of the fun little twists. Having spent so many years being with films, I don't know, I found it a bit endearing and fun. It's hard to find the right words, but while we know the story oh so well of the conversion from silent to sound, this was sort of like a good friend receiving good fortune. IDK.

That said, I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the blasted thing! Worth actual cash it would be not. 1 year 1 month ago
