It's possible to dislike the movie because of the plot holes being big enough to drive a truck through....the mother is rather one-dimensional. However, it's from the point of view of a child so that it is easily forgivable; children are mean and are likely to forget that when they see something 'cool' like an alien. Even then, the last 50 minutes or so is goosebumps-inducing magic. Despite all the faults, I still love this movie.

I am old enough to have seen this when it was brand new, but until today, I hadn't seen it in probably 30 years. So sweet; lots I had forgotten. A perfect family film.

It would've been much more beneficial for both the humans and aliens were they to just stay on earth, but it's a great film all the same.

A really sweet movie! I don't watch it much nowadays but I've seen it so often as a child and liked it so much that I'm just still really fond of it. Very touching and lovely for children.
