   While a bit melodramatic, it is a wonderful portrayal of jealousy and it's downfall to madness. The acting by Arturo de Cordova is a bit over the top, but Delia Garces is wonderful as Gloria. I found it really interesting that I thought that it was very Hitchcock-ish while watching it, but I thought Bunuel had copied Hitchcock not the other way around. 7 years ago

   Interesting though one of Buñuel's lesser works. Even for it's time and place it is overly melodramatic. Star de Córdova is over the top and the female lead character isn't fully developed - certainly not by today's standards.
   
   All that aside, one can't help but admire Buñuel's attempt to highlight problems inherent in a patriarchal society known for machismo and how women are treated. It's also interesting how Buñuel both points a finger at and seeks solace in organized religion - though this is not a new theme in his work.
   
   Can't recommend unless one is particularly interested in either Buñuel or the cinema of Latin America - specifically Mexico. It can be a hard watch in the present day given the strides of feminism and increased awareness of mental health issues, but it does shine a light on a world we'd like to see relegated to the dustbin of history. 8 years 7 months ago
