The other links are broken. I think this is the true film. It matches with Minkin's descriptions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4rogqV4NIM

Attention Checkers:

There are actually 5 (or possibly 4) films from 1902 about the eruption of Mt Pelee! explorer95 has indeed linked to the correct film. Unfortunately, those who used Monoglot's link have instead watched the film made by Ferdinand Zecca (so uncheck this film, and instead check this one: https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/la+catastrophe+de+la+martinique/ )

In addition to the Zecca film, Edison's studio made 3 (possibly only 2) films about the events: a pre-eruption smoking volcano; a during the baking soda-esque eruption; and an aftermath of the burning city.

To make sure you've watched the correct film for this Melies check, take note of the following:

1) The Melies film is the only one in color
2) It should look like this:

I now feel like the world's foremost expert on this mountain eruption's documentation in film. Eruptions are big events wherever you are - its geology in real time, as the Earth suddenly changes form and tells us that we must respect it - for nothing can stop these volcanoes and we must bear witness to their power.
