Fantastic sci fi thriller for Garland's directorial debut. The story is provocative and intriguing, the principle cast are superb and the whole thing coasts along in this eery tense atmosphere. Engrossing is the word i'm looking for.

It reminded me why I love watching movies. Highly recommended

At one point in the film we see some code on the screen. When I first saw it I was particularly annoyed since it had nothing to do with what the character was doing. But when I got a chance to see it in detail:

#BlueBook code decryption
import sys
def sieve(n):
x = [1] * n
x[1] = 0
for i in range(2,n/2):
j = 2 * i
while j < n:
x[j]=0
j = j+i
return x

def prime(n,x):
i = 1
j = 1
while j <= n:
if x[i] == 1:
j = j + 1
i = i + 1
return i - 1
x=sieve(10000)
code = [1206,301,384,5]
key =[1,1,2,2,]

sys.stdout.write("".join(chr(i) for i in [73,83,66,78,32,61,32]))
for i in range (0,4):
sys.stdout.write(str(prime(code[i],x)-key[i]))

print

Which when you run with python2.7 you get the following:

ISBN = 9780199226559

Which is Embodiment and the inner life: Cognition and Consciousness in the Space of Possible Minds. and so now I have a lot more respect for the Director.

I did not have any expectations about this film, but was positively surprised. Quite enjoyable. Alicia Vikander did an excellent performance.

awesome movie

well I thought the suspense would be that Nathan is the real AI, and Ava was just a smokescreen.

But really loved the movie too, it shows the simple thing: AI will take over humans.

A fable about sexual slavery that comes at it from an intellectual angle. The story involves the rich and mercurial inventor of an artificial intelligence housed in a beautiful feminine robot body making one of his employees give her the Turing test. Is Eva sentient, or merely simulating sentience? Over the course of a week, we see how Eva and her observer interact, and come to wonder who is really being tested here. That's surely part of the point, because how can a human being prove their sentience to another? We just take it for granted. The ending - which will prove controversial in some quarters - had me thinking Eva had failed the test even though on the surface it seems to indicate she'd passed it. However, it was my insightful film buddy Marty who pointed out that while the film makes you ask those questions, it also rejects the notion that we should be asking them. We don't and shouldn't need anyone to tell us that we are a person and have agency in the world. I thought that was interesting. I love a good SF thinking piece.

Watch it. Not talking about it being good or bad. If you're a fan of cinema, you won't regret it.

Alicia Vikander is amazing in this film. Easily could have taken home an Oscar.

I found the film to be quite comparable in theme to "Under the Skin" with Scarlett Johannson. of the two, I think "Under the Skin" is better. both films ask profound questions about what identity is, what humanity is, and what sexuality is. I think "Under the Skin" answers these questions in more interesting ways. But this is still worth the watch, even if it feels a bit unfulfilled by the time of the devastating, depressing ending. A good, but markedly not GREAT, film.
