Eye in the Sky is a tight military/political thriller about a drone strike operation - yes, only one - taking place over a short lapse of time, but requiring the input of a large ensemble cast, among then Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman (his last full-bodied performance), Aaron Paul, and Barkhad Abdi (from Captain Phillips). Movies are usually very glib about drone strikes, either using them as faceless plot points or as having comedy pilots who think of it as a video game. The premise here is pitched so as to create the perfect situation to highlight the ethical issues, while also presenting the absurdist bureaucracy involved in giving approval. It both makes the drone strike personal and emotional AND cerebral in its contrast of the people on the ground and those who get to see the action on a computer/tv screen. Tense, darkly funny, ironic... Don't let the fact that Wolverine Origins' director made this put you off. 6 years 11 months ago -

Really good, good length. Exciting, this is how it may look like in real terrorism war. 2 years 5 months ago -

The modern embodiment of the trolley problem, Eye in the Sky encourages the viewer to consider both sides of the argument. Choose inaction, resulting in the possible death of many innocents; or action, resulting in the certain death of a single innocent? Refreshingly, the director Gavin Hood (Ender's Game) chooses not to portray the conundrum quite as simply as other military thrillers, with the military vs the politicians. With humanity on both sides, enjoy strong performances from Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips, and also billed to appear in the remake of Blade Runner). Which would you choose? 6 years 9 months ago
