I found the first one to be very entertaining.
This is just so tedious. They threw the old characters back together, but now their relations and actions don't make sense, the story doesn't develop, instead we have to suffer through a bland series of random events, interspersed with painfully bad expositional flashbacks and then even a voice over narration to try and tell us something the movie can't relate through actions or dialog.
And of course it ignores a lot of established rules from the Harry Potter universe, like spoiler.
It's obvious this five film series is a giant cash grab, but if it were entertaining or made any sense within the Harry Potter world, I wouldn't mind. This is just too lackluster and uninspired.
Also, of all the films randomly taking place in Paris for no good reason just because American audiences have a romantic fairytale image of the city, this is the worst offender.

Weak performance by Depp (among others), uninspired plot, and repeated contradictions and continuity issues make for a poor installment and contribution to the Harry Potter universe. I worry Rowling is slowly destroying her creation because she can't help continuing to pick and tweak and throw in new "bright ideas" that go against timelines, rules, and character backstories that she's already put into canon...

I enjoyed how this movie combined grim and bright moments into a mish-mash suited for modern-day viewer's approved atrocities (spoiler). The visuals were also satisfying and overall I wasn't bored. However, +1 to all of the other commenters' objections: random and poorly-done drifting of the plot (spoiler), the tacky flashbacks and the breaking of HP universe rules, among many.

Weak entry. Lots of filler so WB can stretch it out to 5 films.

JK Rowling has gone full George Lucas. Next step, re-edited versions of the original HP books to address all the continuity errors introduced by this abortion of a film.

Now I love the Harry Potter books and the movies...but I am not a crazed fan, the type who follow Rowling's social media or login in to Pottermore daily. This movie is made for those folks.

FB#1 was an ok wizard romp that I mostly remember for leaving me worrying more about what became of the band of orphans left stranded at the conclusion than the fate of its top characters. Now, this movie crams what would have been a 700 page novel into a 2+ hour film for an overriding plot (and, as it happens, is actually a stopgap for what will be the third film in this side franchise) that could have been easily wrapped within 45 minutes were it not for huge detours and multiple subplots of characters we the viewers are expected to care about just because they are all in the Potterverse.

Lots and lots of dialogue explaining things because, well...things, lotsa Johnny Depp being menacingly evil, lotsa cute CGI animals to keep the kids awake, lotsa mumbly wizard talk. I will give Rowling and the producers credit for the PG-level spoiler--but it still doesn't add up to much. On the whole, meh.

Feels like very badly written HP fan-fiction.

Either do a Newt film or do a Grindelwald saga. Both just isn't working.

Plus Grindelwald was a mass murderer. It's not really going to work as a pg film.

As other commenters have said, this is just a hodgepodge of stories that could've been great, but were not developed in any way. Dialogues are bland, action is non-existent, characters are shallow, no tension is created AND Dumbledore and Grindelwald don't even appear together in a single scene.

Don't watch it.

I had no idea who any of these characters were of why they were doing what they were doing.

Overlong and too much content that didn't drive the plot forward. Some elements confusing. Eddie played Eddie which is usually the case. Acting was fine, Zoƫ, Ezra and Depp and some recurring characters.

The plot seemed to just dry up no third act and half a second

Had to check the plot on Wikipedia and there's 40 minutes not mentioned...McGuffin please!

Nice to include some Harry Potter lore though

Only watched to revise for the third part which is higher rated

I enjoyed it. It has its flaws but still a good night out at the cinema. Loved the links to the world of Harry Potter although none could ever match. Looking forward to seeing the Dumbledore/Grindelwald plot unfold.

Just watched this and came here to check it off, only to find I checked it off back in 2019. That's how memorable this movie is...

I loved every second of this movie! Feeling so overwhelmed it makes me cry! The way the whole magical world is created is super cool!
