Christopher Landon tries to repeat the success of Happy Death Day with Freaky, exchanging Groundhog Day for Freaky Friday in his slasher mix and... It's okay fluff. The thing about body swapping movies is that I find their believability hinges on the actors being able to give one another's performances. And Vince Vaughn as a teenage girl is about as believable as Kathryn Newton being the perpetually bullied high school loser (though she can definitely play a psycho killer). Despite a couple of gory moments, Freaky is really more teen comedy than horror film, and the stakes feel pretty low when you realize killing off any of Newton's friends would be unbearable, and that only bad people are going to die. So when there is a particularly bloody moment (and there are some very good kill gags, mostly loaded up front), it's at odds with the tone (as is, for example, the rapey band of jocks). Watchable? Sure. In a middling Buffy episode kind of way.
Outstanding. Gets the balance of horror/comedy perfect. Close to, if not the most fun I've had watching a movie this year.
Same director as Happy Death Day, and the overall vibe is pretty similar, while being a pretty different sort of horror/comedy. Definitely recommended if you liked that movie.
Pretty fun twist on Freaky Friday. Very gory and Vince Vaughn is good with the girl in male body thing. No Oscar winner, but not the worst waste of time.
Not bad. Vaughn kinda makes the movie as it's fun seeing a giant older guy acting like he's a teenage girl. Her part was a little different. Because the killer almost never says anything, it's rather boring in the scenes focused on the killer.
Also the teacher was ridiculous.
I loved this as a horror/comedy! I think Vince Vaughn plays a teenage girl better than the teenage girl playing the teenage girl! Defo worth a watch if you want some fluff you don't need to think too hard about!

So here is something I don't get.
When the killer wakes up in Millie's body, he sees a Pitch Perfect 2 poster on her bedroom wall.
Then later
Millie convinces her friends she is in the butcher's body by saying that she tells people her favorite movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but it's actually Pitch Perfect 2.
I assumed that later on
the killer (as Millie) would be asked by someone who knows Millie, what "her" favorite movie was. They would expect the answer Eternal Sunshine because that's what Millie tells people, but he would say Pitch Perfect 2 because of the poster. This would tip them off that something was up.
But instead
the poster and the mention of her favorite movie being different from what she tells people, never come back. Maybe a scene where they are brought up was cut.
