Ever heard of Phantasm?

But yeah, it's pretty weak, especially to be considered a classic. Heck, Freddy vs. Jason is better than this.

I think Elm's Street has aged significantly less, because it has an actually funny and entertaining villain that still manages to be traditionally scary. Jason is so...nothing.

Of course this is not a good movie. But for a slasher it's a pretty decent one, and imo it aged a lot lot better than Nightmare on Elm Street. Apart from the stiff acting in the final battle scenes and some generally stupid behavior by the last girl, actually a pretty good example of a typical slasher movie.

The first one in a long while that I wouldn't mind watching again some day.

Even Kevin Bacon in jorts and the Psychoesque score can't help this flick be scary.

The boat scene was unexpected, but I disagree that it would have been a good ending for the movie because it was completely wtf, and not in a good mindfuck way.

Scariest moment was Kevin Bacon's death. Dat hand! (Side note: I have no clue what the logistics for that scene were, and I doubt it was plausible at all, but scary, yes.)

I agree, the last hospital scene was unnecessary. Throughout the film there were some good scenes that made me jump, but it was the boat bit at the end that REALLY got me.

i had to change my pants after the boat scene at the end :)
by the way, this would have been a great ending if the film would have stopped right there!
