Although psychologically violent, thank goodness they chose not to show the physical violence as brutally as they could have. What a horrifying movie! I've seen worse but not by much.

Haneke: I'm completely against filmic depictions of violence. The people that crave visual depictions of violence are monsters

Also Haneke: Directs Oscar-bait move where the climax is an old man smothering his wife with a pillow with no cutaways.

The victims made such stupid decisions that I couldn't care less about them. Several bizarre plot developments as well to make the villains all-powerful. The movie's main theme: to implicate the viewer as a participant in the violence was handled really poorly. There are some interesting breaking-the-fourth-wall ideas, more emphasis on this might have helped the movie. The guy who played the main villain was pretty cool, though. I liked him.

as someone who lived in a country where this kind of home invasion happens all to ofter I found the movie initially very difficult to watch. Then I got into to and it was an intense and gripping watch. that is right up till the point the movie was ruined with the stupid spoiler

To this day I wonder what a masterpiece this film could have been, had Michael followed my advice. Still, no hard feelings; the picture turned out just fine nonetheless.

Packs a punch, but I hated it. The two freaks in it were so damn annoying to watch. If you get annoyed by the stupid decisions made by characters, then you'll be shouting throughout this movie.

Would not recommend to anyone.
