sad to see so many negative comments- I rewatched this today after a long time, and I still thought it was a great film, especially considering Portman's performance
It's a decent rom-com that is pleasant, well-performed and at least initially amusing, but after a while I realised it was just coasting along and the all the characters being constantly quirky in a cliched indie-movie fashion started to become wearing.
Even an actress of Portman's ability can't bring any depth to a Manic Pixie Dream Girl type character. Too much deliberate quirkiness makes the whole seem kind of trite and lightweight.
At times seeming to be plotless, this is a really surprisingly subtle and beautiful script and directorial debut by Zach Braffs with some hilarious moments and a charming performance by Natalie Portman. Great, great soundtrack too.
Natalie Portman is Ok but other than that nothing impressive and hugely overrated. Zach Braff strictly should just stick to sitcoms. The ending and lot of unrequited music ruins the mediocre movie.
