I went for nostalgia and it ticked all the boxes. Sure there’s faults in the film but that’s missing the point of the experience. Now I just hope the franchise can end with this relative high.Siskoid
I was initially delighted with Jason Reitmen's nostalgiatastic Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Not content to simply provide a Ghostbusters sequel/tribute to Harold Ramis, he imbues a nostaglic quality to the film by essentially tapping the currently popular Amblin Entertainment vibe, with kids spending the summer, in this case, fighting ghosts and Dozer's return. And, I mean, a roller skate diner? Nos. Tal. Gia! I love the kids, personally, and their relationship to the mom. Of course, Paul Rudd is his usual delight. The comedy mostly comes from the characters themselves and there's some great dialog in there. As for the Ghostbusters stuff, Reitman does find new ways to use such monsters as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, so it's not that bothersome that the movie is a direct sequel to the original. And then the fan service hits like a ton of bricks (including some particularly pointless and tedious mid and post-credit scenes), and though there are some sweet moments, I feel like the mood of the film changes and you're walking out of the theater on the wrong note. It's not enough to kill the picture, but I still resent the shift.crazy_bitch
Doesn't work for me. I expected it to be entertaining and the cast was very promissing, but for me it turned out boring and unneccessary. The nostalgia is there alright, but instead of little nods to the original(s), the film is leaning heavily on it. It would be nice as little eastereggs that pop up throughout the movie, instead all these callbacks are constantly shoved in your face, saying "hey, do you remember this from the orignal movie? That was cool, huh?". Yes. It was. But this constant barrage of referrences doesn't add any substance to this movie. Also I think it's fine that the plotCodeV
Family adventure continuing the Ghostbusters legacy, new generation is born. Different equipment is introduced to the viewer waiting the apocalypse which is coming.+ Chemistry between Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd and the acting overall
+ Heartwarming scenes related to grandpa

Shockingly good, watchable and entertaining. Sure there’s lots of fan service, but this is essentially Ghostbusters III. I loved how the music was thrown back to the original. It’s not perfect though, the third act stumbles over the details and consequences, but it’s still entertaining. The ending is perfect.3 stars

Perfect. Exactly what we wanted; Exactly what we needed.Toastinator
It's decent. Very nostalgia heavy and the ending was pretty dumb but at least I wasn't bored.SpacedJ
A set of fresh faced young leads take on the mantle of a beloved classic. Lots of references to the original, even cribbing half the plot, with appearances from the former stars to just hang out for a bit to remind everyone they were in that movie that time. But enough about Star Wars The Force Awakens, lets talk about Ghostbusters Afterlife.

I was really enjoying this and then, damn, it lost all its freshness in the final act and just became a fan-massaging rehash of the first film. Bummer.boulderman
Good but not great. 6/10dulaman

It wasn't particularly good and it made little sense in places, but damn if that final act didn't tug the ol heart strings even on a cynical bastard like myself.Glad I didn't hate it but I'm sure the next several sequels will more than make up for that.

As a big Ghostbusters fan, I had a lot of fun. The movie captures the vibe of the original well. But it's not quite as funny or exciting. I also found some scenes implausible.Earring72
Nostalgic sequel. Better than expected. 20min too long but pretty good funTodolojodo
Great to watch on father's day. Somehow this film throw me back to "Contact" movie, the based one on the novel by Sagan.Showing items 1 – 15 of 21
