The Dialogue is the epitome of the cheesy Hollywood Rome.

Good movie, nice action, some visually beautiful scenes... pretty epic. And the cast is great... Russell Crowe and especially Joaquin Phoenix were amazing!

8.5 rate in IMDB? in 900+ lists? Are we kidding? This film is overrated. There is a silly attempt to describe Rome history with scattered plot and the usual blockbuster way of i am the hero / you are the dumb or i am the good / you are the devil. Indiana Jones with too much violence. Pathetic

Best epic movie. Russel Crowe rocks: "What you do in life echoes in eternity".

The general who became a slave.
The slave who became a gladiator.
The gladiator who defied an emperor.

And the director who made one of the world's greatest films!

It's one of those epic movies. A must see movie, not to be missed. And it truly is. Beautifully directed, great actors, gorgeous scenery ... it has it all.
My only regret is that it's a bit long. But it's still a movie worth seeing, probably Crowe's best performance.

It has everything that a history/action/drama movie should have. People who complain that there's not much character development or that the drama is generic, I guess, just don't understand the rules of the genre. [SPOILERS alert] Though a story about a man who lost his family, sought vengeance and finally took it is more than a bit cliche, it does just fine.

It's one of those rare kind of films that is the perfect formula of action, acting ability, and spectacle that I'm always willing to give it another viewing. Crowe and Phoenix elevate the film enormously, they are the crux on which it all turns and without either one I think the film easily slips into just another big-budget action film.

Kind of interesting as to how it won Best Picture in 2000. Out of all the other entries it was nearly the sole action picture and without doubt the largest in scope. Makes you think the judges were just aching for a good film that got the blood pumping and Gladiator sure fit the bill.

Even though I don't normally enjoy movies of this type, I found myself being drawn into the drama and complexity of the relationship between Maximus and Caesar. If only for that, the movie was good. The chariot races were reminiscent of the chariot race in the 1925 version of Ben Hur: very visually stimulating and the camerawork helped to put me right in the arena with them. Not a bad movie overall.

This movie changed my life! Saw it as a 13 year old young buck. My mind was not blown. It was Hiroshimaed. It transcends the use of the word epic, which is why I don't use that word anymore, because it's not worthy to be used.
