@Siskoid - I would say Hana actually owes a debt to Sadao Yamanaka and his two best surviving pictures in particular the poverty stricken community and deconstruction of the samurai class of Humanity and Paper Balloons and the comedic lightness of The Pot Worth a Million Ryo.
Though I don't think Hana is quite on par with either, Humanity and Paper Balloons is a masterpiece and I'm pretty sure Kurosawa himself listed Pot Worth a Million Ryo as a favorite of his, it's still a welcome picture in Kore-eda's body of work. 8 years 6 months ago -
