Well, I completely disagree with the majority of comments on this page.

Is it a great movie? Of course not. Is it a good time? As comedy-horror-fantasy-action flicks go, yeah, it is. I think anyone who things it was "a serious attempt on a kick-ass witch-slayer-team story" as opposed to a comedy attempt at a kick-ass witch-slayer-team story perhaps missed the point.

Felt like the writer gave up halfway through a serious attempt on a kick-ass witch-slayer-team story, loosely based on the Grimm one. Nothing makes sense... until you take a look at Tommy Wirkola's previous works. Basically he's written and directed low budget, low quality horror comedies about witches or zombies.
How he managed to get into Hollywood is a complete mystery. Don't get me wrong, I loved Död Snö - but it is not Hollywood material in any sense of the concept. Perhaps some big cheese at Paramount or MGM loved it too and decided to give him a chance?

What's the point of having a beautiful woman like Famke Janssen in a lead role and only show her real face like 2 minutes total? How do you accept the fact that Hansel has killed more than 600 witches, yet is most of the time a bumbling fool surviving on dumb luck and the witches being impossibly stupid? And exactly how do the witches know the kill score?
The ending more or less makes a sequel unavoidable.

High points include: the steam punk theme and weapons, costumes, makeup, human-appearance-Famke, Peter Stormare

Low points include: script, story, Gemma Arterton, Jeremy Renner, every fight scene in the entire movie, the wire work, useless henchwitches, the pointless troll, diabetes, H&G stalker groupie

Bonus: go check out the official site and enjoy the copywriters frenzied efforts to spin this hopeless mess into something awesome.

    Interesting notes from IMDb:
    * Not screened in advance for critics. Gee, I wonder why.
    * Famke Janssen stated in an interview that she took her role as the head witch because she had to pay off her mortgage. Inspires confidence, no?
    * Will Ferrell listed as producer, along with some of his comedy producer buddies.
    * Diane Kruger, Eva Green and Noomi Rapace were considered to play Gretel, but Gemma Arterton eventually got cast. Imagine what could have been!
