I never fully comprehended the aftermath effects of a nuclear attack until seeing the stock footage in the opening minutes of the film. This must have been quite the emotion-shaker back in 1959. I found every moment of the movie thought provoking and fascinating--until the last 5 minutes. I didn't get that ending at all.

This movie is like one of Linklater's "Before" movies but with a more apparent plot and a darker atmosphere. If you like watching two people having conversation and you wouldn't mind some graphic montage about the aftermath of atomic bombing, this is a perfect movie for you.

I think its very normal to not understand this film. Its about pain, trauma, love and morality, intelectualized and experienced in a very intense way, which I dont think are very common for many people to experience..

I like it .. almost my favorite, love the acting, the photography and with an accurate soundtrack. If you dont like French, "Art Films" or Black and White films.. don't even bother.(There is plenty of action movies) Therefore If you like that, you'll be amuse.
