From someone who actually lives where this film is set (and where Simon Pegg lives) I found it hilarious, though not for the squeamish. It just gets funnier the more times you watch it. Even studying it in film studies as part of Working Title and British Film didn't take the hilarity out of it.
Better than Shaun of the dead! [2] The great acting, the wonderful chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the fact they play on ALL action tropes - Lone Wolf, melodramatic music, sunglasses, one liners, giant brutes, suave villains, overload of gunpower, the villains terrible aim, the big explosion, the Point Break scene :') and others - not to mention the kickass score and beautiful respresentation of the rural English countryside. The only thing that annoyed me was the editing during the final showdown, it was too fast, cutting needlessly from one actor to the other, in shots so quick you'd think Ingmar Bergman or Tyler Durden is playing tricks on you.
Still, one of the best comedies I've ever seen 4.5/5
first half of the movie i loved how tedious and awesome the policema-sorry officer was. hilarity and the gore always goes together well. british sure knows how to make you laugh at something you disgust. brilliant movie =)
The beginning is kinda boring, expected jokes and all. But the last half of the movie is simply outstanding. I laughed as hell, I just couldn't stop laughing. Very good movie!
