mrsnoops- How can you call any movie spectacularly awful when some of your favorite movies are Remember the Titans, Mulan and Miracle? Just because this movie doesn't have an cheap sentimentalism to shelter your precious mind doesn't mean that it is an awful film. War is hell and people (especially innocent people) die horrible deaths because of it. Simply because it's animated doesn't mean it has to follow the "rules" of animation as it does an astounding job of balancing the beauty of nature with the anguish of man.
Now go watch some more Hollywood tripe and stop wasting our time.
It's a well made movie, but does not make sense on many levels.
If your sister is dying, you are prepared to do anything to save her life, even if it means going back to your vicious aunt.
And the boy could have done much better. I understand it is war time, but surely there must be some government provisions for orphans. Plus he could have and should have found a way to his relatives. The boy just did not seem to be willing enough.
It seemed that the movie makers went all guns blazing to make the movie depressing and impractical.
At least with the English dubbing, I found it alternately cloying and depressing. Beyond that, an interesting and somber take on the real victims of war. Visually well done, but I suspect that the lushness of Miyazaki has spoiled me for any other Japanese animator.

I was crying 4 minutes into the film - it’s that good/sad... Really heartbreaking!Showing items 1 – 15 of 52
