I tried to get into this film - I really did - but just couldn't. I found myself immensely bored and constantly checking how much time was left until it was over. I don't think it was a bad film by any means; though instead of having a proper story line, it was an hour and a half of one lone topic and nothing to venture outside of it, centered around the question of whether or not the poem held artistic value.

The script was mostly readings of the poem either through shots of James Franco reading to a crowd or through animations in a city. The animations were well done and nice but far too overused and added nothing for me in the film. I would have rather enjoyed a film with acting to portray the poem or something to give it a background.

I thought I would enjoy this film and I believe they could have done a lot with it, but it was too repetitive and bland with no real meat to it.

Honestly, It's one of those movies that you could only enjoy if you have some interest in the beat generation. My no means is it solid state of craft. It experiments a lot of elements and you just have to flow with it coming off somewhat documentary like in how it exposes things.

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn."

I also didn't really care for the animation, but it's interesting to see how they've managed to build a movie around the poem.

I didn't like the animation, but other than that this is a great movie.
