While I love you Phillip Morris is certainly a product of its time (do not play a drinking game based on each times the f-slur is used) it made my little queer heart happy. It's a fun "be gay, do crime" romantic comedy, sparing us of the perfectly smooth, vice-less-gays-lest-straight-people-might-hate-us trope.

It's far from perfect, and definitely not Jim Carrey's best interpretation of a role, but Ewan McGregor steals the show and makes it worth watching. Big comfort movie potential!

Okay, I'm trying to find words to describe this one... because I'm still not exactly sure how much I like it.

In general it's a very funny and touching story. Some scenes seemed a little out of place or rather gave an uncertain impression of comedy versus drama, sometimes I could just not decide which of the two a scene was supposed to convey. Although this is an interesting concept, in this case it was a little confusing and also irritating at times.

But some scenes were good enough to make me like the movie somehow. In the end, it's not one of my favourite movies but not bad either.

A word about the actors: I really respect Jim Carrey in funny AND serious roles, I think he's got huge talent for both - but though he was great in some scenes, others seemed a bit artificial.
Maybe it's personal taste, but while Ewan McGregor was hilarious, cute and touching and made me totally buy that he WAS Phillip Morris, Jim Carrey kept reminding me that it was just a movie and he was just "portraying" someone. I just had the feeling that most of his other roles came a lot more natural to him than this one. Hate to say this because I adore Jim Carrey, but that's how I felt.

I can`t believe that this movie is based in a real life story, Steve Russel is mad, bold and funny at the same time because of the things that he had done, love the character of Jim Carrey
