I know the go-to favorite for Sam Fuller westerns is Forty Guns, but this one really surprised me how much I loved it. It's his first time in the director's chair, so of course things are going to be awkward at times and less visually appealing than Forty Guns, but damn if this movie didn't have me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. You can definitely tell he was mostly interested in making a psychological thriller that just happened to take place in the Wild West rather than just a straight western. The scene with the singing guitarist, in particular, could stand up to anything from the rest of his filmography.
Also, I swear Preston Foster is Norm MacDonald and nobody can convince me otherwise. 8 years 9 months ago -
