I loved this film. It breaks your heart. Noé's camera work is impeccable, his use of music, the acting... Unforgettable.tylerdurden
not an enjoyable movie by any means, a good movie maybe, but not enjoyable.TeaDrinker3000
To the few people who will actually read this comment: I definitely recommend this movie, I think it's quite good. The controversial scene aside, I think there's a lot here as a good movie.stellaslove
That was intense.. Actually quite a good movie if you can stomach the content (and the spinning footage at the beginning). The last time i was so traumatised by a film was 'Requiem for a dream'.V012

I seem to have something for movies that are totally horrible or controversial, but justify their content through subverting norms and quality production values. Some films try but fail through overbearing pretention (A Serbian Film), and some could have done with an editor (Enter The Void). This falls somewhere between depressing arthouse and New French Extremity - Gaspar Noe is up there with Haneke and Von Trier in those categories, at least in terms of ambition. The scenes in question are utterly, utterly horrible and stone-cold in their realismoperationdropkick
Good film, very disturbing though.I dread to think just how hard it will have been for Monica Belluci to film that infamous scene.

Visually stunning. Gaspar Noe's skilled cinematography is definitely a highlight, and adds to the realism of the effect of alcohol and drugs on the characters, as well as other things. Love the way he makes it look like its all only one take. Does anyone notice that perhaps the only time the camera is completely still and motionless is during the infamous rape scene? It's like we're forced to watch it. Also, I love the contrast of the two halves of this film. The first half is gritty and violent, completely merciless and in the second half everyone's having fun and enjoying themselves (except for Monica Belluci at the party, pissed off at her boyfriend). Love the classical music and flashing words at the end. This film really proves it. Time ruins everything.StigAnder
This film is very fascinating, both in its message and artistic way of expressing it. The reason many people can't bear to watch especially one scene is that it's so real. *Slight SPOILER* In that scene I felt the director had just left the camera there, showing this awful truth. And that makes the viewer resonate with the character in a way that couldn't be done else way.koolchris
First off, like several comments here have said, this film should be watched alone.I personally thought it was a great film. However, some of the camerawork was a little distracting. For example, the spinning was very obnoxious to me. At the same time I liked it because it highlighted how crazy and out of control the events in the movie were.
I do think the scenes in the gay club depicting the sexual acts amongst men are important, but at the same time I believe there was too much of it. I think Noe could've cut out a bit, or not show as much, and still have gotten the feeling of intensity through.
Overall, the acting was very on point. It all seemed very realistic including the harshest scene in the movie. That scene made me cover a my mouth in horror, cringe with pain, feel pure hate, and even get a little teary-eyed.
The plot itself is rather simplistic, but the emphasis is more on how the story was captured and presented.
I thought this movie presented a story that serves as the perfect example at how cruel the world is, and how easy it is for an individual's life to be turned upside down & wrecked.

This film has one of the most disturbing scenes in cinematic history.feliperibeiros
Fucking disturbing.ShotMarvinInTheFace
What disturbed me the most in the infamous scene, is the moment a stranger walks into the passage (you see him in the background) sees what's happening, but desides not to help and go back up instead... That unknown son of a btchjasonslfl
I honestly don't know how to describe this. The first half left me nauseated between the spinning camerawork and the infamous scene near the halfway mark. The second half of the movie differed though and gave the first half more substance and meaning in my opinion. Definitely don't watch this with friends or family.Showing items 16 – 29 of 29
