   This film is a clear example of a case where the whole is more than the sum of its parts. An O.K. story, great cast, brilliant production, mediocre script, poor direction, amazing music, historical liberties and some very basic and laughable battle scenes result in a rather interesting movie that can still be enjoyed more than 60 years later.
   
   The love triangle (if it can be called that) becomes more important than the main plot, and probably due to the moral values of the time (I mean the 1950's and not King John's) it's toned down and decaffeinated. As much as I dislike remakes, I wouldn't mind a 21st century adaptation of this story, with more steam between Ivanhoe and Rebecca and a less cold blooded Rowena. Yes, I know Rowena was a well brought up English aristocrat and we cannot expect her to behave as a cat in heat, but the challenge would be to make her less unidimensional. 8 years 4 months ago
