A welcome, and very belated, return to form from Thomas Vinterberg - it's been nearly 15 years since he directed the classic "Festen" - but this film is even better. Mads Mikkelsen is phenomenal as Lucas, a nursery teacher wrongly accused of abusing his best friend's five year old daughter while she was in his care. The girl attempts to take back her lie but the community, set on a course of mistrust and disgust as more children speak up, turn on Lucas. It's scarily plausible how it runs out of control and absolutely gripping cinema. Vinterberg is in complete control of the film, and it looks stunning as well. One of my favourite films of a very strong year for foreign and independent film. 11 years 9 months ago
