Terrific drama, well acted, directed and edited. How you enjoy the film depends on your interest in the subject. My wife saw the movie 20 years ago and fell asleep and never needs to see it again. I loved it 20 years ago and keep rewatching it.
Whether you believe some of the conspiracies or feel vehemently ashamed of their existence concerning the assassination of JFK, you can’t doubt the emotional and dramatic gravitas of this film. It stays with you long after it’s over, much like the events inspiring it do. An incredibly taut script with an array of dazzling performances (notably Costner in the lead role), Stone claims it’s his favourite out of all his films and you can understand why. Stone’s films usually have an alienating or irritating aesthetic – overly edited and awkwardly shot. Whilst this appears to have the same flaws, the technique(s) don’t undermine the film as they have in previous work (both editing and cinematography winning the film it’s Oscars). If you don’t find it entertaining it should still interest you on some level.
Though I can't comment on how accurate or truthful the issues it portrays are, this is without question one of the best examples of intertwining actual footage of world events and modern moviemaking. It's so seamless that you have to almost continually remind yourself that a good amount of licence is probably being taken with the material but it's also so easy to fall right down the rabbit hole. It's an incredible ride.

Whether you like the screenplay or not, you can't deny that this is a masterpiece of editing and cinematography.frankqb
Politics aside, Stone tells this story in a compelling and forceful way. It's hard to not get swept up in the film. Likely Kevin Costner's best work.Neville
A powerful fiction, representing itself as the truth.Earring72
