So sweet. I don't see how the end is confusing though. I really liked the story, beautifully animated either.

As somebody down here said: It's a delight for the eye. But also, it's a delight for the soul. A beautiful, perfect movie, for children. Ghibli brings us perfection, in the directorial debut of Hiromasha Yonebayashi. Loved every little detail in the movie. And as an architect, I'm always looking for details. 10 out of 10.

This film, as all Ghibli productions, has a wonderful atmosphere. It's a joy to experience it. I liked that the ending was unpredictable, because if it wasn't, it would be your usual Disney fare. I don't watch Ghibli films to scratch my guy gets the girl itch, there's a dime a dozen for that category. No, I watch them because the world's are so wonderfully immersing.
Not that I dislike Disney movies.

Gentle and warm, with the usual impeccable Ghibli artistry and reverence for nature. A serene treat.

Maybe it was "weak" compared to the unparalleled canon of the Ghibli universum, but I love each detail about it making it a Ghibli film. I can forgive it its flaws, as there are no other movies to accomplish that special feeling.

Kinda cheered me up to see it hitting the IMDb Top 50 movies of the 2010's. :)

Loved this one. Such an uncomplicated story but with a lot of depth, and so well animated! I was so wild about the soundtrack that I immediately bought it from CDJapan (I did that only once before, with August Rush).

The unresolved bits are actually answered earlier on in the movie; watch it again and you'll see ;-)

Update: I now have it on Blu-Ray and it blew me away to see it at this quality. The focus-pulling at certain times (a homage to Lion King) is performed perfectly and those little bugs randomly appearing is just hilarious.

This movie wasn't weak at all, a subtle story with great small and bigger moments. Even quite touching.

I don't know where to start! I recall a scene from the movie where Arrietty is climbing up the plants. She stops for a moment to catch a breath when suddenly a gust of wind energizes the whole atmosphere (See Snapshot). There is a moment of calmness when Arrietty gets up realizing that she is no longer in her "secret" haven; she's now in the forbidden world of human beings. Animated films don't usually have calm little moments like these. These are the points where the film is allowing audiences to get into the skin of the character and escape into the wonderful universe. Arrietty is not only about the story but also is about the experience. It has so many beautiful moments like the one mentioned above...

Yeah of course the film has stunning animation. Everything is madly detailed from huge city landscapes to a drop of rain. And to help tell the story, Cécile Corbel's spellbinding score brings goosebumps while experiencing the action. On Technical terms, Arrietty score top marks.

In conclusion, Arrietty is the glimpse of our own world but from a different perspective. It does so in a quite artistic way and every frame of it feels so fresh. And the ending, though confusing to some people, proves how unexpected life is. Highly Recommended.

My Rating: 5/5
