I acknowledge that these were the pioneers of special effects and they are amazing for there age, however I felt the story was to narrow and the movie was 'bulked' up by an overly long island scene and too many Kong vs ??? Fight scenes.

It gets pretty annoying by the spoiler, but I was so amazed by how ingenious the effects are that I'm willing to forgive the flaws and consider it a praiseworthy classic.

Frighteningly ahead of its time? Yes. Groundbreaking Special effects? Yes. Boring and uninvolving? Sadly, yes.

I find the notion that this big special effects blockbuster and crowd pleaser is being called elitist quite absurd. This is probably one of the most "accessible" film from this era for younger generations as it's ludicrously fast paced, a bit too fast for my taste, and essentially shares the tradition that people like Roland Emmerich are now taking part of. Though the latter statement might offend the most hardcore fan ;)

Surprisingly brutal for 30's cinema. Great film.

The way this film makes a monster turn into a misunderstood monkey for the viewer with not even one single dialogue is just amazing. A true all time classic and a must-see for sure.
