The film is a cinematic embodiment of the scene in Manhattan where Isaac describes what makes life worth living. According to Woody Allen, the ultimate pessimist, there are still things that make life worth it. To him, that means jazz music, the French Riviera, and Emma Stone's smile. And the cinema, of course.

I just love the era and who can badmouth Colin Firth? Nice movie with an appropriate amount of humor. Recommend.

A witty 20s romcom about a world-famous illusionist (Colin Firth) who tries to debunk the powers of a charming medium (Emma Stone) in the South of France, but she may just upend his world view. It strikes me that Allen is making a lot of films with the same intent Tarantino does, i.e. tributes to a certain genre of literature/film. Magic is a little bit Agatha Christie, a little bit Arthur Conan Doyle (the man himself was a ghost-breaker who came to believe at some point), and a whole lot P.G. Wodehouse. Perfectly charming and entertaining, especially Firth's character who is the perfect Wodehousian (and Wildean) wit. There are greater concerns here as well, such as the contrast between Firth's atheism and the simple magic of emotion. But overall, I dare the Whovians among you to watch this film and not think Firth would make a great Doctor. It plays like a lot of New Who, with a great but clueless genius talking circles around everyone, yet learning grace from a would-be companion. At the end, they hopefully climb into his TARDIS, destination Everywhere. Ok, that's not the intent, but by now, I'm sure you understand how my brain is wired.

Excellent Woody picture, with more than a few scathingly witty comments from Firth's character.

Really enjoyed it.

Interestingly, the movie takes place in 1928, two years after Houdini death, no better man to unmask a psychic that the great Houdini.

Woody Allen is a director that I appreciate and respect, I think his writing is in some way now a genre on his own, the man knows how to make a movie.

Emma Stone, maybe one of my favourite actress, big fan of hers.

The movie was funny, Colin Firth had some sarcastic lines that I enjoy, the romance aspect, spoilermake the girl older or the man younger.

It is not an awards contender in any way but it still can be a good time, especially if you are a fan of the diretor and main actors.

Waste of money and time. With that plot this film could have been so much better.

Didn't like it. Was really bored actuallly, because it was all going kinda slow and too much like you expect from moment one. Plus, it's too cheesy for my taste. Too bad..

Waste of my time. Don't recommend it at all. The setting is beautiful, the story is boring and the plot (or at least a good plot) is nowhere to be seen. It could have been so much better.
