Absolute rubbish. Boring and never-ending fight scenes, a complete lack of humour or self-awareness, a barrage of incoherent flashbacks as a substitute for a narrative, annoying and meaningless supporting characters that for some reason get their own storylines, some of the stupidest character decisions since Prometheus, and cringeworthy dialogue and exposition. The only redeeming features were the impressive special effects and Michael Shannon, but a good movie they alone do not make.
Origin stories are rarely great, especially when everybody already knows what's going to happen, and let's face it, Superman is kind of dull compared to today's other superheroes, but this movie just felt absurdly lazy and disjointed given the budget. They try to make some kind of tortured hero out of Superman, no doubt in the mould of Nolan's oh-so-successful Dark Knight trilogy, but it just doesn't work for the character, and the result is that the movie loses all its sense of joy, fun, and individuality, whilst still failing to capture any of the brooding menace and dark tone of Nolan's Batman movies. Oh and don't get me started on the shameless product placement that would give Michael Bay a run for his money.
I know everyone loves superhero movies at the moment, but I really can't fathom how this is currently sitting with a 7.6 on IMDb with such glowing audience reviews.
Choisai said it. It's now just abundantly clear that America hates and fears its cities. We must now celebrate their utter destruction in every single blockbuster on a yearly basis.
These superhero movies are starting to feel less heroic when we have to see major metropolitan areas obliterated and millions of people killed. And for gods sake, those poor clean up crews in New York/Gotham/Metropolis must never get a break.
Plus side: amazing visual effects, some of the best I've ever seen on film. Great music. Costner, Crowe, and Adams are great, and Henry Cavill plays well as Superman, though not quite as much presence as I'd like. Fight sequences are ridiculously intense. Some terrific individual scenes (the beginning, the ending, anything with Lois and Clark together,
Superman's final snap, which carried surprising gravity
Negative side: plot is way too simple, pacing too baggy, and the characterization is mostly trite with traditional elements of the saga discarded for a pastiche of Dark-Knight style ethical brooding
Lois already knows Clark is Superman by the investigations she undergoes, so the tension in the romance goes out the window, plus the film essentially justifies its final murder by playing the Christ analogy
. Tonally, the film felt rather disjointed and thin, though the actors do the best they can, some humour, warmth. and emotional grace notes wouldn't have gone amiss.. It's set up as presenting 'promise for the future', and though it doesn't have the seedy comic-noir underpinnings of a Batman Begins, it's probably Snyder's best work yet. That's not saying a lot, but it's a start.
Ultimately though, this had the same issues that Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness had - either a inconsequential barebones plot, excessively kinetic pacing, and frustratingly thin characterization. I suppose I shouldn't expect anything more from the summer movie season, but there was so much squandered potential.
Hm, well despite other views I personally enjoyed it not only does Henry Cavill present the relaxed and calm personality of the superhero across the screen, he pulls off the role very well. I'm glad the superhero was portrayed with emotions and how that reflects his behaviour. The cinematography particularly, focuses on specific visual elements which balance out, the action sequences to bring the audience's attention to the small detail created making it unique and captivating. Beautifully, aesthetically pleasing.
3 things I did not like about the movie: its length, lack of humour and the long fighting scenes. What I did like is all the rest, the science fiction edge present in this movie, the visual effects, the more realistic aspect of Superman and his struggle to become a superhero, the acting of Kostner, Cavil, Adams and Crowe.
A good movie in all.
I have never seen an actor with bigger pectorals. So big that they pushed Cavill's chest hairs up through the neck of his super suit. He may not be the best at acting but I don't think Snider could have picked a better Superman honestly. And Russell Crowe was awesome from the first minute of the movie. The last hour will have very mixed opinions.
Chock full with as many problem points as things that appear to work out. You can kind of see the Nolan influence in the writing and the direction the film takes. As long as Nolan (and also Snyder apparently) is convinced that you are focused on the one-on-one action then everything in the background can slip into being ridiculous. For example, there's a strong moral plot in the story of Kent being the good guy and being more of a protector of the human race. If that's true, it doesn't make much sense that he killed untold thousands of people in Metropolis by insisting to have a clash in the middle of the city instead of taking it elsewhere. Lois Lane was mishandled as well, I won't spoil but let's just say their whole comic book relationship seemed to fly by pretty quick when we finally get to the end of the movie.
Indestructible alien being gets brought up on Earth, inadvertently signals his arch nemesis of his whereabouts, and proceeds to destroy Metropolis in a fist fight with said arch nemesis. That's pretty much it. That said, Henry Cavill isn't as terrible as our childhood superhero as I had at first thought. So there's that.
What an awful film. Terrible acting (Cavill is very gormless), boring plot, charmless and idiotic script, character development presented in bullet points (flashbacks), overlong, humourless, unconvincing and inconsistent sci-fi elements, and odious visuals. Everything seems to have been shot with a filter labeled "corpsify", and visual effects seem to have been added purely with the intention of being intrusive and obviously fake.
I found it hilarious how much they were pushing the idea that Superman is Jesus. Could there be a more stereotypical American concept than Jesus being an All-American musclebound superhero? For some reason the sun is always framing Kent's head like a halo. There's a scene where he falls backwards in slow motion out of a spacecraft with the Earth in the background, arms splayed in a cross. One of the villains says "evolution always wins [against morality]". Somebody was paid to write that.
The music was alright, but that's not such an achievement. There was basically one piece made up of about three notes that was played like a full stop at the end of each "epic" moment.
I really had to force myself to watch this in anticipation for the sequel, which I am now much less interested in, having seen this film. 0/10, would not recommend.
Edit: Oh yeah, and “It’s just that I think he’s kinda hot”.
One thing is for sure, the effects were amazing, this version shows the different story/side of superman, well I should say I expect more fight scenes (just to introduce the new superman off course), and I know change is good but I was kinda hoping to see Lex Luthor somewhere, and there was also a huge change in Lois Lane's character, I mean I never knew she can do an action scene... But all in all everything is good.
Liked it. It's dramatic, it's epic and it's grand. I did miss the typical Superman tongue-in-cheek humor. It's hardly the best in the series, but defo not the worst. At the end of the day, it's entertaining.
And my lord Cavill is one handsome motherfondler.

Everything about this movie could have been better. It's not terrible, but it's far from being any good. Boring and uninspired.lachyas

Why they didn't include a Russell Crowe singing scene in this ?Flops
