Technically, I think this film is incredible. The staging, the framing, the acting from Connery and Hedron (though to have seen this with Grace Kelly as planned would have been something else) and the supporting cast is fantastic. The pacing does lag at times, and the melodramatic flourishes may seem overly theatrical to some, it was a groundbreaking film for 1964.
Decent enough, but disappointing coming from Hitchcock after a run of classics. Although Hitchcock occasionally pulls off some great individual scenes, it mainly seems too slow and talky, and relies on some weak and unconvincing psychological plot devices.
The acting on this one was pretty awesome Tippi Hedren was superb, I found the case very stereotypical but actually a pretty good one, almost like reading some Freudian case, obviously the times changes and also some psychopatologies and symptoms change as well.
I think this is a good one. Story might be strange but i've found it psychologically interesting and i was surprised also by the ending that is quite shocking. I mean it is a '64 movie, a way before De Palma. Not one of Hitchcock best works, but recommended.
Hitchcock's Marnie, while technically a text book example of the great director's use of the camera and editing to visually tell the story - you could probably derive his entire filmic vocabulary from this one movie - is first and foremost a strident melodrama. And while you're never sure where it's going the first time you see it, the story and acting do seem old-fashioned because of it. At the time, I'm sure the final revelations were very shocking, but today, they're par for the course. What shocks most today is that Sean Connery's character physically and psychologically dominates Tippi Hedren's, and (only somewhat ambiguously) rapes her. Yet, we're meant to think him a sympathetic character. Hitchcock was obviously interested in psychology, and what might drive a woman to become a grifter and thief, but he also enjoyed this kind of unhealthy relationship (Vertigo has a similarly nausea-inducing love affair). That interest keeps Marnie suspenseful and interesting; I think it's the over-the-top ending that probably makes it seem so hackneyed. I admire it for its parts, but the whole left me cold.
Not that great actually. Some scenes are pretty good, but as the film is predominantly on Tippi Hedren's shoulders, she rarely holds it together and lets it slide most of the times. Also, it takes too long to unravel which makes it less gripping than it should have been.
I watched this for the first time, last night. Probably will need to watch it again to fully appreciate it. I found this "making of" that has helped me understand it a bit more (English audio):
Cómo se hizo "Marnie, la ladrona" ("Marnie" making-of)
What really helped me in the "making of" is the explanation of a certain scene from the perspective of a male and female. (Replying to a comment by "

Extremely good and very underrated.Connery and Hedren work beautifully together, what a pair of beauties.
I love the build up to the end, thrilling as always Mr. Hitchcock.
