Not Burton's best. It doesn't have any depth, I guess it's nice visually. The amusement park scene was ridiculous.

I've not been a fan of Tim Burton's recent work, generally, but found this to have a much lower cringe-factor. It manages to be very much his usual aesthetic without going overboard (Willy Wonka, Alice, I'm looking at you). On second thought, maybe the secret ingredient is to not use Johnny Depp...

Had a strong start with interesting visuals and an intriguing premise, but became a bland mess.

Terrible acting from people who can do much better. Particularly painful when they had scenes with those actually trying.

I haven't read the books but they're on my list. From talking with people who have read them, this is a poor substitute.

What a visually stunning and semi-confusing mess! There were some great shots here, especially with the way certain visual elements were slowly revealed but this movie kind of goes all over the place in terms of tone. It's very hard to place. For instance, spoiler

I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish here but at least it was unique! This movie has been on my To-Watch list for a while and I don't regret seeing it at all, but it surely was far different than what I expected.

I liked it. More than I expected. It was not too much tim burton and I found it really entertaining. Could have been more serious but meh, it was fun and pretty to watch.

It starts ok ish it tries to be a bit too Adult (the entire thing about eating small children eyes) then moves to ridiculousness and ends up a bland mess a meh at best. Tim Burton your time is over, move on. Better yet exit stage left. Before you destroy anymore your work/fan base/legacy.

seriously disappointed with how far this movie strayed from the book! I understand the need for entertainment but wow... didn't even make it in the same ballpark as far as storyline goes.

For me, it started kinda bad, then turned out to be great, and went bad again at the end...there was something missing. I think it has great creative elements to it tho, of course, it's Tim Burton's world!

very disappointing! in many points it lacks of connection between scenes, objects appear and disappear in thin air, during crucial moments many characters just stand there without interacting, while you are thinking "do something stupid!". it looked to me more like a adolescent movie done by who-knows-who rather than by burton.

Tim Burton is back and gosh it feels good! This movie amazed me from the beginning to the end; and the cast is just perfect :)

I loved it. The character design, the storyline, the effects. It was all much better than I expected. And I just completely fell in love with this movie!
