I didn't find myself as involved in this one as I did other Studio Ghibli movies for some reason. Still enjoyable nonetheless.coral_ck
@ lisamerklin. Even the great Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), who painted the famous 'great wave', had some tentacle art. I will not splay it here because it is way to graphic. This, of course, doesn't answer your question, I have no idea why there is so much tentacle art in Japan, but it's nothing new.lisamerklin

Like many others, I think the animation in this film is groundbreaking, but the film itself is neither outstanding nor Miyazaki's best. Perhaps the English dub had something to do with it, but none of the characters were very engaging, making it difficult to care about much of the action.ohmu
