So bad. So, so bad. Such a great premise and a promising first half lead to unimportant side stories and way-to-quick storytelling and by halfway through I just didn't care about anything.
Independence Day -> Armageddon -> Star Wars -> Contact -> back to Armageddon
Pretty standard blockbuster disaster movie. If you can suspend ALL belief and logic it might be a fun ride. There were just too many "are you serious" moments to take it seriously. Not to mention the whole subplot with the son was just a complete waste of time..
Pretty standard end of the world family movie with some nice cg. Oh, and it's mostly a Kaspersky ad. Ironic, since Kaspersky has now been labeled "a threat to U.S. cyber-security".
Much better than expected, great effects and the story was alright... Yes it is unbelievable... It's sci-fi! They hired an astronaut as a consultant who she things wouldn't be possible and they said it's just a movie :p (equally, credibility goes a long way)
6/10 Funny moments too with Fuzz Aldrin. Blatant Roland Emmerich film
This movie is a fun bad movie, there a subplot with thieves that was not needed but otherwise the end sequence had a great twist that made this film very original. Honestly it is just a bad but fun and entertaining movie. It is worth a watch if you just want to sick back and watch a movie. People who like Armageddon, GeoStorm or any other fun but cheesy disaster flicks this is for you, if you are looking for the next Citizen Kane or Godfather steer clear.
We're definitely in so bad it's good territory for parts of this.
I knew what I was getting into.
Some proper laugh out loud moments.
I have already watched the Pitch Meeting YouTube clip for this. And Mark Kermode's review is also great. And How Did This Get Made have already covered it.
So, so, so, SO stupid. In a good way. Starting with a cobbled together mashup of Roland Emmerich's greatest hits, it stumbles along predictably and then suddenly goes full on, balls to the wall ridiculous. Fresh meat for bad movie podcasts.
Something I found interesting is
how quickly news of the moon changing course "trended on Twitter" and "went viral", which used to be the standard accepted narrative of what would happen with world changing events in these kind of movies, but since Don't Look Up I can't take it seriously. We would genuinely not be talking about it until big old moon face popped over the horizon and started sucking up boats.
A lot of family sideplot as always with disaster films. Emmerich has done much better, but I enjoy his loose, silly approach over that of some other bad, more "serious" blockbusters.
Gross Musk-stan Roland Emmerich's Moonfall is unfortunately not as advertised. It LOOKS like it doesn't take itself seriously à la Iron Sky (which is still the best Moon Attacks movie), but no, it's an Emmerich greatest hits with cliched dialog, uneven acting, uneven CG, tedious destruction porn, and plot holes the size of... well, the size of that hole on the Moon from which SOMEthing attacks. His contention that conspiracy theorists - remember, this guy made Anonymous - is ill-judged in today's landscape (but at least they didn't fake the Moon landing), and you're frequently pulled out of the movie to question how things are possible, even within its own rules. It does take itself seriously, which is itself laughable. It could still have been a passable space romp, but for all the Earthside scenes to work, you need a cast of characters you care about as your POV. We don't have that. The astronaut's son in particular is a block of wood, but they all stare at green screens with no notion of what's going to be inserted there and therefore have no notable reaction to Earth being destroyed. Actually, I kind of feel the same.

A very bad high concept movie. I can not say I loved it but could not hate it either.Pauljt1980
Emmerich at his best, if that’s a thing. His best idea for a disaster movie would be about the state of his movie releases.Pauljt1980
