I'm really surprised, when looking at the subject matter, at how amateur the development of the film comes across. I couldn't help but wonder how different this film would have been if written/directed woman. The more salacious qualities (i.e. Kasie's experiences as a sex worker) are barely shown - in their place are repetitive exterior shots of Los Angeles, which translates an immaturity of the director's vision. The pacing has room for improvement. The 'natural conclusion' of the film felt like it came to that point multiple times. Everything about this film screams "I'm an independent filmmaker! A really independent one!!" from the rooftops, from the number of second department crew members to the production design (listen, from experience, if you are a full-time caretaker of someone with a long illness, your house is fucking musty, and *that* house was too clean).
I guess I just expected more. 4 years 6 months ago
