Mulan is so digital in the worst way possible, so horribly edited at times and so deeply soulless in its storytelling, it basically feels like the antithesis to what cinema should try to achieve in my mind. 3 years 7 months ago -

200 million dollars to produce such a stiff, heavy-handed clog of a film that should be sprawling and imaginative. It's a shame because the opulent sets and really beautiful landscape photography hint at the kind of epic we could expect but which we never get.
It really doesn't help that the actors' (English-performed) dialogue appears so unnatural, a factor which gave many earlier wuxia productions some amusing charme but in a picture which takes itself so damn serious just comes off as awkward. 3 years 7 months ago
