   It was obvious from the very beginning that

   Nancy wasn't their daughter. I kept hoping that it'd turn out to be true, but of course not.
   
   Still, I'd hoped that they'd accept her anyway and that they'd be happy together.
   Instead, she bailed and left them in the middle of the night.
   
   I don't entirely know what the point of the film was. Yes, she deleted her blog (a pretty huge deal) and was ready to tell them about her past, but...her mum was dead and her dreams of having a family were crushed. It ended with the family being even more broken than before, and Nancy being even more alone than before. They all deserved to be happy, but instead they all ended up miserable.
   
   Maybe I missed the point, but as satisfythecrave said, the ending was like hitting a brick wall after going full force.

   
   It was disappointing and unsatisfying.
   
   That being said, everything else was great. The cast, the music, pacing and cinematography...all lovely. Especially the cat.

   I struggle with articulating my feelings on this film. It excels in a lot of ways - Andrea Riseborough is a phenomenal actor. We must respect her more in our society. Her ticks, her patterns, her trail of logic as Nancy are incredible to watch. Also, she is very Butchy Femme in this movie, which is a HUGE plus for her repertoire of amazing looks. Steve Buscemi and J. Smith-Cameron work wonderfully as a pair of concerned but loving parents, hoping Nancy is who they want to believe. Buscemi really stands out to me as the perfect Soft Dad character - a side of him we don't see much, a la Willem Dafoe's role reversal in "The Florida Project".
   
   

   My issue stems from the limitations a story like this presents. There are two limited outcomes - she is or isn't their child. While Christina Choe wonderfully uses subtle ticks to make the audience aware that Nancy is too deep within her own con to know the truth, I can't help feeling unsatisfied with the results. It's like hitting a brick wall after going full force.
