Kazuo Ishiguro, the author of the novel this film is based on, has stated that he wanted to write a story about people who are resigned to their fate, and that what the story really is about. The reason none of them try to run away is that they don't even consider it an option, they have been brought up to accept what will happen to them. There are plenty of people in real life who settle for less instead of reaching higher. For various reasons, people stay in unsatisfying relationships and jobs or don't pursue their dreams. Even if they technically have a choice in the matter, they choose the path of least resistance, a.k.a. resigning to their 'fate'. You could see "Never Let Me Go" as an allegory of that. 12 years 10 months ago

The film missed so much of the athmosphere and the characters described in the book. I can't say the movie is bad but they could've done easily a better job. I'd say it's better to read the book first, you will better understand the characters and all the other things the film didn't get right. The acting and shots were okay/good. I just can't stand Keira Knightley but that's my personal opinion. 10 years ago
