   Gotta say, I really appreciated the character design and animation in this. Looks slick and always visually entertaining. The storyline is also fresh and heartfelt, the pacing is on point, and you feel invested in the characters.
   
   Hot dang some of the dialogue is pretty cringey though, and I could not always stomach the choices in tone. Coming out just last year, this already feels dated. There just seems so much reliance on that kind of annoying snarkyness that comes from being terminally online, though there weren’t any explicit memetic references so I will give it that. It’s just a shame, because at points this movie does some really interesting things.
   
   Minor spoilers for this small example: At one point a character is asked a hard question that hits them emotionally. They build up more and more a kind of flamboyant emotional response, then it cuts very abruptly to them saying “I’m fine.” Cutting in that way is a great way to show internal struggle, and I was impressed by this editing choice. At the same time, I was still cringing over the angry, hyperbolic monologue just spewed. I kept feeling this pull between border-line masterful storytelling & animation, and theater-kid level writing.
