Bittersweet like the life itself. I love it! The music from Morricone matches perfectly. Thank you Ennio and rest in peace!

Cinema Paradiso is a semi-autobiographical memoir of director Giuseppe Tornatore's youth, growing up in a small Italian town and befriending its sole projectionist. Ennio Morricone, far from his cowboy stuff, delivers a score as pretty as the images, less a plot than a series of anecdotes and impressions, couched in nostalgia. It's a love letter to the the movie-going experience, and what fascinated the director about celluloid, and if you feel a kinship with young Toto, you'll get it. I will say that the feeling of nostalgia did overwhelm the piece at times, and my innate skepticism did ring with alarm at the surely idealized memories, and I found my interest slightly waning once Toto was older (adolescent idealization feeling sappier than the child's). Still, that ending, oof. It's emotional, but also redolent with meaning. A love of cinema consummated. Stolen moments restored, as per the function of this memoir. More. As a collection of memories, the film might seem to meander, but it really did know where it was going.

Had to watch it over 3 sittings. One of the slowest films I've watched. Some beautiful shots but not enough to warrant a rewatch. 3/10

For everyone wondering which version to watch. I watched the 120 min international cut. This was the cut which won the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTA awards and Cannes. It didn't feel like something was missing, only at some point were he went to militairy service if felt a bit rushed. But except that, it was perfect. I also appreciate it when a movie doesn't drag too much.

After watching this years ago, last week I saw it on the big screen and it has gone straight to number one of my top ten films. I fell madly in love with it as it made my heart both leap and break.

Superbly serene and beautiful .We find ourselves so deeply attached to the movie, that we feel like the protagonist himself, first trying to find an escape in the movies and then unable to grapple up and come in terms with reality, our depserate attempts to cling on to something we know will not stay forever and our weakness in accpeting its change, and no matter how far we have come from where we have started we still have that deep-rooted wish to hold on to those beautiful moments and stay there forever like nothing happened at all.Musical score is so elegant it embraces the beauty of the movie.Pure masterpiece. The protagonist's homecoming is in a way kind of my return to this amazing work and my strong desire to just lie there forever.
