One-Eyed Jacks is indeed an original western film. The plot is typical and basic, but it adds more psychological depth than is common for the genre. The cinematography is also great. The seaside setting provided a fresh breeze and a contrast to the oh-so dusty plains.
However, to really enjoy this movie you must be as much in love with Brando's herculean ego as he is himself. And why does he insist on mumbling every line of dialogue?
Brandon's acting style has always bored me. His mumbling and frozen face stares leave me wondering just what he is supposed to be conveying. I've always thought he looked rather effeminate and it's hard for me to see him as any great womanizer or gunslinger. Here, he tries to do both and it leaves me wanting.

Brilliant! Bravo Brando! There are at least 5 excellent performances in this film, and it has a really engaging story which gets more and more involving as it progresses.

If there was ever a film that deserved to be remade, this one is it.
