The first half of the movie was a bit dull. It took a long time to build up, but when it finally got going in the second half it became really interesting and the ending was great. It is a movie that makes you think about life and people.

I think Ordinary People is way better than people say it is. It deserves better than "I can't believe this beat Raging Bull!"

Yes, it beat Raging Bull and yes, time hasn't been kind to it, but I found this film excellent. It was brilliantly acted and brilliantly cast. Timothy Hutton's performance is unforgettable.

Almost expected it to have been adapted from a play given how somber it was, but I enjoy that sort of stuff so I found it to be a rather engrossing film. Plus, the cast was perfectly selected and Donald Sutherland was outstanding.

i thought the film was great, but i don't get why timothy hutton was nominated best supporting actor. it was a leading role.

Slowly in the beginning.
A story about a young man dealing with loss and anger, fighting for a healthier life with the assist of a unusual doctor.
Robert Redford didn't win for acting but he has his oscar for directing.

I agree with dAJaro. This is one of the best out of all the crappy 80s Best Picture winners. Along with Amadeus and Dances With Wolves.

Sooo much better than Raging Bull. I have no idea why people always think Raging Bull should have won.
