Meh. Looks good, the witches are hot.
It was watchable without pain, but don't expect anything great and powerful here.

Barely recommended.

Boring, badly directed, mostly badly acted. A very expensive snore time. In 3D.

The problem is the dialogue which stands as though written for a Braff sitcom or a Bruce Campbell film, with cutaway and snark that feels so unbecoming of Oz. There is nothing genuine about Oz, nothing that feels authentic, nothing that asks us to believe, which is what Dorothy gave us in the first film. The problem is probably Sam Raimi, a man with a visual creative take, but a cynicism that only really work in horror films and those films that operate as commentary on the over used tropes of culture.

This movie is intended for children before anything, as was the original. So all those looking for "character development" and oscar winning performances.. you obviously don't know how to choose your movies. Any fan of the original film will love this movie, it keeps true to the original concept with new protagonists and just the right amount of nostalgia.

I absolutely LOVED this movie. It is a great combination of concepts from the original film as well as from the book. While some people say that you aren't given time to develop any sympathy towards the people of Oz, I think that can be said for the original film as well. I believe that Glinda is a representation of all that is good in Oz. She is the "front man" so to speak. I definitely empathized with her.

In any case, this story isn't about those people, OR about Glinda or the other witches. This story is about Oz, and I feel that this film does an excellent job at portraying his personal growth. This film is supposed to be about the wizard before Oz, during Oz, and after everything happens to him in Oz. It is a great story of conquering self-doubt and discovering great power within yourself.

I thought that this movie was fantastic.

Thin story, no character development. Everything in Oz was a series of excuses to have spears, water drops, etc, zoom toward the 3-D audience. It's all very pretty, but there's just no substance.

I enjoyed this movie much more than I expected, the connections to the original wizard of oz were fantastic. However, something felt off about Mila Kunis's acting. I don't know what it was, maybe this was not the right role for her.

A really enjoyable film with a lot of fun moments. James Franco and Michelle Williams delivered great performances. My only complaint is Mila Kunis; she was miscast. Her portrayal of the wicked witch was laughable at times.

Somehow every new epic movie makes me disappointed in a way. This one was visually beautiful, great way to use 3D effects.. But if you take that all away, you're left with basically nothing. The only person I emotionally attached to was the new assistant that disappeared somewhere.

I'm just saying - if there's a battle between good and evil, make me interested at least in the good guys.

Mixed impressions.

The visual effects were amazing - watched it at the cinema in 3D and I was blown away by all the wonderful colors, the giant flowers, the landscapes and rooms, some characters, some costumes... very powerful - visually.

The way the story was told was alright - but there was something missing for me to make it as interesting as I wanted it to be. I just kept looking at the great pictures but I was never really captured by the story.

Plus, as lovely as Mila Kunis looked in the beginning, I hated the way she looked towards the end. I mean I wanted her to be scary or even ugly and all, but they made her look ridiculous. About the only visual effect that I did NOT like.

So all in all, mixed feelings, not sure if I'll watch it again.

Decent flick. Interesting to see the back story of Oz. Did anyone notice similarities to the Evil Dead trilogy of films? I saw Sam Raimi's hand many times throughout. Although I like Mila Kunis, I do not believe she was properly cast for her role in this film. The CG in this movie varied in quality. The china doll character was very cool looking and I really liked the effects for the finale.
