Great movie for fans of Tim Burton. I found it very charming.

Directors like Ridley Scott and Ang Lee whose filmographies are all over the place, however great they may be, don't necessarily leave a stamp on their films where you go "This feels like a Ridley Scott movie".

But guys like Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, even Michael Bay and Shyamalan, they all leave a mark on their films where you can clearly see them, even if they had no part writing the screenplay or story.

Such is the case with Tim Burton. Whether it's Big Eyes or Edward Scissorhands, the man creates visually unforgettable worlds featuring weirdo outsiders. You can count on that for everything, even his lesser works.

I would consider Big Adventure a lesser work. I didn't find it all that funny (yes I know it's for kids but that doesn't mean adults can't laugh) and it doesn't hold up to his other 80s and 90s classics. But I genuinely did not expect to feel Burton's mark on every. single. scene.

And I loved that aspect of it. The dark and weird. Super weird. A lot weirder than people give it credit for.

I watched this as a child and the truck driver scene scared the living daylights out of me. You may call my opinion childhood trauma biased, but I despise this film.
