Tonally inconsistent, a weird blend of romance, whimsy and horror but never quite successfully doing any, so that the ending is both confused and rushed, but a strong cast helps somewhat

Very tonally inconsistent. Was it a romantic comedy? A drama? A horror movie? The answer is yes to all of the above, but at the expense of the movie overall. It's got quite the cult following and an amazing cast, but I wish it would pick a lane!

Alias

Sandra Bullock in the nineties was so great, and yet she just could not find a director who knew how to make her charm work.

The movie itself the worst kind of book adaptation: instead of focussing on one aspect of this long story, it tries to cram it all in, and the tone whiplashes from high domestic drama to farce multiple times. I blame Akiva Goldsman.
