What a pleasant surprise!

Loved the animation style. It's great to finally see the influence of Spiderverse taking off. Why would studios spend hundreds of millions in animation just to have hyper realistic designs? I believe that's boring and self defeating (that goes for a lot of videogames too). I mean, have fun! This cost half as the average Disney film and it's way more appealing to the eye.

The story is even more impressive. I definitely didn't expect Puss in Boots: The Last Wish of all films to tackle themes like anxiety, acceptance and mortality; in an elegant way that's digestible for younger audiences, but here we are. A nice antidote to Disney's late solipsism. spoiler

... and to top it all off, an amazing cast that includes the best and funniest Jimmy Stewart impersonation ever. I couldn't stop laughing.

My favorite animated film of the year.

Puss in boots 1 was very mid but the sequel is much better. The main villain was genuinely scary, the little doggy side character was funny and charming, the world is really cool, the emotional moments are actually touching. They also switch to an indie game/spiderverse-esque animation style sometimes and that looks really good. I liked it a lot.

Surprisingly good. I didn't expect a children movie to tackle issues like death and anxiety as it did, but it does and it does good.

The villian is scary af, the little dog is charming, but the crown definitely goes to the animation style, it's just gorgeous.

In terms of animation, Puss in Boots - The Last Wish seems to have learned some lessons from Into the Spider-Verse without necessarily looking like that film. There's definitely a sense that different kinds of animation can co-exist, with "drawn-on" effects layered over the three-dimensional CG models and the big action beats having a crazy loony-tunes quality about them. But where the movie shines is in its well-told story about Puss losing his mojo after wasting 8 of his 9 lives and experiencing fear and anxiety for the first time. He, his allies and frienemies will all learn the value of support systems, while the hilarious villain (Jack Horner) will most distinctly not. The frienemies, by the way, are Goldilocks and the Three Bears, played as a Cockney crime gang, and they're pretty funny. The Last Wish is a full spread - it has a lot of laughs, a lot of action, a few songs, and touching drama too, as well as clever fantasy elements and a strong use of the fairy tale land postulated in Shrek. It doesn't shy away from showing a bit of blood and suggest people do die in this universe, so it's (pleasantly) not as sugary as what Disney is doing. Two claws up!

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is possibly the best entry in the Shrek-verse since the original Shrek. I didn't expect to relate so strongly with a heroic cat. I watched the film with both my fiance, and ugly-cute-happy-playful dog next to me, and I felt like, "Yeah, I could be Puss, my fiance could be Kitty, and my dog could be Perrito." I self-inserted strongly with this movie, and I could very much empathize with Puss and the characters. This film is pretty awesome, and I recommend it for everyone who can enjoy animated films.

This movie is really impressive, especially for a kids' film. It exceeded my expectations. The storyline has a somewhat dark tone, which was surprising. If you're anticipating a cute fairy tale, you might be let down.

Barely made it through the first half - hated it! Second half was better, but overall, was not that impressed (with either film)
