A great performance from Nicole Kidman and a script that sidesteps the usual grief cliches really impressively. Not a cheerful film, but a very good one. 13 years 1 month ago -

Feels like transparent Academy award grab for both Kidman and Eckhart. But it's a strong one. 4 years 4 months ago -

It's a story that's been done before and nothing new to the cinema, but adds its own character to create a film that's both heart-wrenching and relateable in any sense, and a must-see.
The character's ability to experience love and hate, sadness and happiness, grief and compassion - through themselves and through one another - all within the same scene, catches your emotions and connects with the reality. And with this the actors did phenomenal; Nicole Kidman reminds me of the different mothers that I've met countless times. Her anger but also solitude towards her situation was portrayed so real and so selfless. The always talented Aaron Eckhart released emotion after emotion, channeling into the character deeply and convinced the viewer it was real - I was truly impressed with his ability to capture an audience, and I always am with him.
As said before, the film's writing was very unique and I enjoyed that; the entire plot or story line wasn't given straight away and acted more as a puzzle, putting two and two together. It was interesting to watch unfold and nicely to see put back together by the end.
Well put together film, and I enjoyed it a lot.
