Such a beautiful and sad film. Quite amazing it is so good considering the lack of resources and mostly amateur actors. You really couldn't tell. The well told and heartbreaking story makes up for any moments of melodrama.Dieguito
Incredible movie made during the WWII. A provocation to Germans, also written by Federico Fellini.fakirfikir
A masterpiece !stexdo
Strong story and a couple of timeless characters. Rossellini managed to take the few resources left during the war and made one of the best Italian movies ever.I had the luck of being able to watch the brand new 4K restorations done by "Il cinema ritrovato" and its fantastic!

One of the most moving and powerful endings to any film I've ever seen. Absolutely unforgettable.oOGiandujaOo
The positive...Anna Magnani, she is admittedly an almost inestimably massive positive. The negative...almost everything else, terrible action, highly voyeuristic (the women are almost always dressing or undressing), inappropriate use of grand guignol towards the end, a limp handling of suspense, homophobic leitmotifs, half baked ideological rhetoric, visibly thin and unenthusiastic POWs used as German soldiers. Some of these are written off by commentators as "of their time", but actually great art always transcends its time. Some of them can't be overlooked even in the presence of this excuse slip. Had Rossellini never heard of Hitchcock?The_Claw
Ah, Anna Magnani! The greatest actress of her time. An absolute delight to look at.
