Oh hai cupboard, hai skylight, hai television. Oh hai, William H Macy, how is your sex life? Hai doggie, you're my favourite customer. I'm so glad to have you as my best friend, Brie Larson, and I love Leo so much.
Gripping film about a woman and her child confined in a tiny room.
The first half is beautifully done, precisely detailing how 2 human beings cope with living in such a tiny space. The second half, on the other hand, drags a bit too much in my opinion but, in the end, it never stops being a very emotionally freeing release.
Harrowing and emotionally testing - it's a superbly executed observation of the devastation that such an event brings. The smaller, quieter moments had the most impact; and as a father myself, the child's plight personally hit me very hard - heartbreaking!
Weird, this is one of the first movies were I felt that the soundtrack was the weakest part of the movie. It was so predictable, "now it's time to feel something" and the piano + strings get cranked to the max, and in the end it was like you could guess the next note the stings was gonna play. Still a great movie though.
At the beginning it was great. I thought it was gonna be a claustrophobic thriller/horror film following the line of others like Cube, Panic Room or even Das Boot. But in the middle of the movie, when they escape, it changed completely. By the end you realize it was more a family struggle, children plasticity, mother issues, society adaptation and all-that-stuff kind of film with, of course, a nice happy ending. You know, things that can get you an Oscar for.
Don't get me wrong, I really liked the movie, but I got the feeling that if they would had escaped later on, the film would have been better. That way your main focus would be on elements in captivity and not in freedom, which is certainly harder to swallow, but in my opinion, more rewarding too. You care more about Robinson Crusoe when he is on the island, than what happens to him when he leaves.

To be honest, that skylight didn't look particularly high, nor that shed especially sturdy. Couldn't she have tried a bit harder a bit sooner?sourcreampudding

The room (2003) was more coherent. And had better actors.Alfredo Garcia
