I watched this with no knowledge of the real-life events.

I went into the movie expecting it to be a typical rivalry movie about the likable good guy beating out the evil bad guy, but both characters were built up well with their likable aspects and their flaws. By the time of the last race I didn't know who I wanted to win; I just wanted them to survive.

If you didn't know it's the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1970's, mostly around the 1976 F1 season. While it's great if you know this before going in, it's not essential and the whole film is easy to understand and completely accessible for non-F1 fans. This film is as polished as it gets, Ron Howard is one of those directors who is a safe pair of hands, the film is perfectly put together, the race scene's are visually incredible and visceral. All the actors do a brilliant job but special note to the Niki Lauda character. I wasn't a huge fan of the way Howard used the filters but after a while it was fine. Worth a watch, brilliantly made movie. 8/10

Excellent camera work, and one of the best rivalry stories in a film I have seen in some time. Ron Howard really steps it up and puts together one hell of a film. You could even hate racing and have a blast with this movie. All the characters are very real and very likeable (and unlikeable at the same time). I think it is natural to find yourself going backwards in allegiance to Hunt and Lauda throughout the film.

Chris Hemsworth proves he can act. He perfectly captures the playboy James Hunt while making him a very personable yet superstar character. Daniel Bruhl also gives a very nuanced performance, and is as much a lead in the film as Hemsworth. You really get sucked into the rivalry between them even though rivalries have been done so many times in films before. This one is captured with a level of attention to detail and storytelling that makes it something special.

Very hard to be disappointed by this one. Definitely one of the best films I have seen so far this year.

One of the best sport movies of all time.
It begins with the great acting, camera work..photography and all the other factors.
But let's not forget that Howard did not show us just the rivalry, he wanted to give people the other side of the story..he wanted to tell us about the intimate story between the driver and death..how they met in each race..he also indirectly shows that between Lauda and Hunt the word rivalry can be translated as inspiration.
Totally worth the watch.

I didn´t knew the outcome of the story.
My favourite sports movie ever, this movie really move me, it is really impressive, Chris Hemsworth is fantastic but Daniel Brühl is out of this world, a awesome performance, give him at least a oscar nomination, the guy deserves it.
I love Biopic movies, there are probably my favourite genre, this is one of the best in a long time.
I love Rush, it is fantastic, awesome story, incredible performances, for me this movie is perfect.

Just an extraordinarily good movie. Every aspect of it is stellar, in particular the two lead performances from the perfectly cast Brühl and Hemsworth, and Peter Morgan's watertight script. The racing scenes are filmed exceptionally well, and even if you have no interest in F1 whatsoever they send your heart rate skyrocketing. Thankfully they're not overdone either, with just the right amount to balance the more personal, emotional moments, which are also executed faultlessly.

Biopics often get weighed down under their own sense of importance, but the dual structure of Rush prevents this, and the film does a remarkable job of presenting both drivers without bias; it's a real testament to the filmmakers that my allegiances switched multiple times throughout the movie. My only criticism is that the juxtaposition between the two drivers' lifestyles is a bit heavy-handed at times, and that the narration was unnecessary, but the fact that these are such small complaints is only further proof of just how good this film is. Ron Howard's best movie to date, and one of the best of the year.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They made the characters realistic. No good guy - bad guy movie, but they are both in a sort of grey area. You get sympathy for both of them, and it adds realism to the story.

Ron Howard's Rush chronicles the rivalry between Formula 1 rivals James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and does it very well indeed. I couldn't care less about racing as a spectator sport, but Howard puts you in the pilots' headspace and makes every race sequence different, exciting, and absolutely clear as to what's happening. The oversaturated colors are perfect for the racetrack environment of bright, fast cars, and evoke the look of old photographs from the 70s. But if the racing is impeccable, it's got to be about the characters, and it is. The film's real success is in how it might set up the likable Hunt as the "hero", but by spending just as much time with the more ruthless Lauda, insures you'll have trouble picking a side at the end. Both men can be admired or condemned; each point of view has his value. An exciting and effective biopic.

Better than I expected. A decent movie without to much bullshit. Just keeping it simple. it is about sport, respect and rivalry. Just as is should be (and was in real life).
I enjoyed it. Absolutely worth a watch.
