At first you'd expect absolute bullshit from a post-internet revival of a film of the so-called genre, but the production values (imagine a SyFy film) might tell you otherwise. I think the strongest points of the movie are technical, i.e. the lightning, the music, and the edition are pretty cool, pretty profesional.
This movie suffers tragically of the so-bad-it's-good curse. One of the things the film warns you about at the beginning is that Tommy Wiseau acts in it, that obviously means "this is a self-aware narrative, and the movie is meant to be bad, no matter what you may wanna think". Imo there's two kinds of humor here: the first one in which cameos and fan service prevail, that you'll find entertaining only if you know the first Samurai Cop by heart; and the second one, where reiterative dialogues/screams or self-evident bad CGI/green screen take place. That's it, that's the pretention of humour in Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance, take it or leave it. There is some kind of stuff I missed from the first one, like the awkwardness of some seconds in the shots where nothing happens, the randomness of the edition, etc., which, even though made the film more competent, made it unfunny to me. The lack of exploitative elements, other than the female nudity, were too a con for me, u know, for a narrative as fan-driven as this one I expected a bloodbath like in fucking Django Unchained, nevermind the CGI blood. And except for his accent, Tommy Wiseau was boring. Also, I think 90% of the women from the movie are in porn or something.
At the end of the day, I think the movie delivers only if you like everything that has the word zombie(s) in its title or if you love the prequel. That's it. 7 years 11 months ago
